After testing the service earlier this year on the CBUS Downtown circulator and the AirConnect route to the airport, the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) has now rolled out free WiFi on all routes.people only need to use their mobile phone to connect with WIFI and open the code function to scan in front of barcode reader ,then they can finish the ticketing payment fast
Decals on the inside and outside of the bus indicate that the service is available. To connect to the network, called “COTA Passenger WIFI,” riders will need to check a box saying that they accept the terms and conditions. Registering with an email address or Facebook account is optional ,and get the only QR code especial for payment .
Lisa Myers, Public and Media Relations Manager for COTA, said that Wi-Fi is also available outside of COTA’s office at 33 N. High St., at the COTA Spring Street Terminal and COTA Transit Terminals in Downtown, and at the COTA shelter at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport on the Arrivals level.
Some other long-awaited technological upgrades also appear to be on the horizon.
“COTA will be installing new fareboxes on our coaches this fall,” said Meyers. “Mobile ticketing is expected to follow later in the year, after the installation of the fareboxes, and smartcards are expected to launch in 2018.”
