Do you know the difference of barcode scanner in terms of their image sensor-CCD and CMOS? Did you choose a right barcode scanner for your project and application?
1) From the perspective of scanning mode, the image barcode scanner engine/module usually has a scanning lens. It scans by taking pictures. So there is a rectangular red area with auxiliary light by near. As long as the barcode is in the red area, it can be read. However, the CCD scanner light is a thick long red line, which has to cover the bar code to achieve successful scanning.
2)In terms of barcode recognition ability, the image scanner can read accurately and quickly not only the printed barcodes, but also mobile phone screen barcodes. Thus, it brings great benefits to mobile payment, e-ticket validating, conference attendance, which are very popular currently. While the ordinary red light CCD /laser scanner is difficult to read mobile phone or LCD screen barcodes. In addition, since the image scanner applies image processing technology, it has image capture function, and it decodes barcode by taking pictures. So it can read broken barcode easily, while CCD/Laser scanner can not.
If you want to purchase a mobile phone screen barcode scanner, we recommend the image scanner. But before purchase, we also need to pay attention to a detail problem: you should consider if the scanner can still work well when the brightness of mobile phone is too low. Rakinda developed a series of barcode scanner for mobile phone screen barcode scanning–4500 Series, including 2D fixed mount scanner RD4500I, RD4500R, and 2D desktop scanner RD4100. All of them are excellent in reading mobile phone screen 1D/2D barcodes.
