First of all what is the difference between RFID and barcode?

1、Different roles

Bar code is a machine-readable code, the width of a number of black bars and blank, in accordance with certain coding rules arranged to express a set of information graphic identifiers. A common barcode is a pattern of parallel lines arranged by black bars (referred to as bars) and white bars (referred to as blanks) with widely varying reflectivity. When a barcode reader, smartphone or even a desktop printer scans the barcode, the information about the item is identified. These barcodes can be made in a variety of shapes and sizes, and the identification is not affected by the shape or size of the barcode.
RFID is the radio frequency identification technology that carries out non-contact data communication between the reader and the tag to reach the identification target. Radio frequency identification (RFID) tags consist of microchips and radio antennas that store data and transmit it to the RFID reader. They use electromagnetic fields to identify and track objects. RFID tags come in two forms, active and passive. Active tags have their own power supply to transmit their data, unlike passive tags, passive tags require nearby readers to transmit electromagnetic waves and receive the energy of electromagnetic waves to activate passive tags, and then passive tags are able to transmit the stored information to the reader.

2, the application is different

RFID applications are very wide, the current typical applications are animal chips, car chip immobilizer, access control, parking control, production line automation, material management, goods marking, etc..
Bar code can mark out the country of production, manufacturer, commodity name, production date, book classification number, mail start and end location, category, date and many other information, thus in the circulation of goods, book management, logistics management, banking systems and many other fields are widely used.

3、Working principle is different

Wireless radio frequency recognition technology through radio wave does not contact fast information exchange and storage technology, through wireless communication combined with data access technology, and then connect the database system, and to realize the non-contact two-way communication, so as to achieve the purpose of recognition, for data exchange, in series a very its complex system. In the recognition system, through the electromagnetic wave realization electronic label read-write and the communication.

The bar code technology, is with the computer and the information technology development and the application and the birth, it is the set code, the printing, the recognition, the data acquisition and the processing in one new technology.

In real life, we can often see bar codes and RFID tags in a variety of different product packaging, such as supermarkets convenience stores daily necessities more see bar code tags, more RFID tags on products such as clothing, shoes and bags, why would this happen? Let’s first understand the advantages and disadvantages of bar codes and RFID tags and reading and writing equipment.

The advantages and disadvantages of bar codes

Advantages.

1. barcodes are universal and easy to use, as stores with barcode readers can handle barcodes from other locations.
2. barcode labels and barcode readers are cheaper than RFID labels and readers
3. barcode labels are smaller and lighter than RFID labels
Disadvantages.
1. barcode readers have a shorter recognition distance and must be close to the label
2. Bar codes are more paper labels are directly exposed to the air, vulnerable to wear and tear, easy to be damaged by water and other liquids, after the destruction of the bar code function will be invalid
3. The label can store less data
4. The barcode reader must be scanned separately, does not support group reading, and the reading efficiency is low
5. The label is easy to be forged and the cost of forgery is low

RFID advantages and disadvantages
Advantages.
1. RFID tag and reader reading distance is long
2. Can read multiple tags at once, data reading speed is fast
3. High data security, can be encrypted, can be updated
4. RFID tags can ensure the authenticity of the product, with anti-counterfeiting traceability.
5. RFID electronic tags are generally to have waterproof, anti-magnetic, high temperature resistance and other characteristics, to ensure the stability of the application of radio frequency identification technology.
6. RFID technology according to the computer and other storage information, very high up to several megabytes, can store a large amount of information to ensure smooth work.
Disadvantages.
1. RFID tag and reader price is higher than the bar code
2. RFID tags and readers need to be selected according to the reading frequency, distance and environment, etc. More RFID experience and technical knowledge is required to ensure that the required reading rate is achieved

From the above it can be seen that the performance characteristics of bar codes and RFID tags and supporting reading and writing equipment are not the same, so customers need to choose the right product according to the actual use of demand. Hand Hall handhelds have been deeply involved in RFID and barcode related equipment for many years, and are committed to providing customers with all kinds of customized tags and handhelds.
